Citi Trends Insiders Placed Bullish Bets Worth US$4.55m

Listen to the news

Multiple insiders secured a larger position in Citi Trends, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTRN) shares over the last 12 months. This is reassuring as this suggests that insiders have increased optimism about the company's prospects.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Citi Trends

The CEO & Chairman of the Board Kenneth Seipel made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$4.1m worth of shares at a price of US$19.06 each. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$19.25 per share to be enticing. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$4.5m for 246.66k shares. On the other hand they divested 262.00 shares, for US$7.0k. In total, Citi Trends insiders bought more than they sold over the last year. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Citi Trends insiders own 13% of the company, worth about US$21m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
