Dow Jumps Over 400 Points; Verizon Earnings Top Views

U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 400 points on Tuesday.

The Dow traded up 1.11% to 38,593.91 while the NASDAQ gained 1.19% to 16,059.95. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 1.06% to 5,212.77.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Real estate shares jumped by 1.7% on Tuesday.

In trading on Monday, consumer staples shares rose by just 0.6%.

Top Headline

Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) reported better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results Tuesday.

Its revenue growth was 1.5% year-over-year, reaching $33.49 billion, topping the analyst consensus estimate of $33.24 billion. Adjusted EPS of $1.19 topped the analyst consensus estimate of $1.15.

Equities Trading UP
                       

  • Gelteq Limited (NASDAQ:GELS) shares shot up 237% to $3.17.
  • Shares of Tivic Health Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TIVC)got a boost, surging 211% to $10.90 after the company said it held briefings with the White House and FDA, which garnered interest in potential military and defense applications for its product candidates.
  • Meiwu Technology Company Limited (NASDAQ:WNW) shares were also up, gaining 85% to $2.30 after the company announced it regained Nasdaq compliance.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Thunder Power Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIEV) shares dropped 65% to $0.0475. The company recently received delisting notice from the Nasdaq.
  • Shares of Scorpius Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:SCPX) were down 48% to $0.0680. Scorpius Holdings received NYSE American notice of delisting and reported plans to appeal.
  • MKDWELL Tech Inc. (NASDAQ:MKDW) was down, falling 36% to $0.2495.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 1.1% to $63.77 while gold traded up 0.5% at $3,443.90.

Silver traded up 0.6% to $32.70 on Tuesday, while copper rose 1.9% to $4.8165.

Euro zone

European shares were mixed today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 fell 0.3%, Germany's DAX 40 declined 0.3% and France's CAC 40 slipped 0.2%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.3%, while London's FTSE 100 rose 0.2%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mostly higher on Tuesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 0.17%, China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.25%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 0.78% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.24%.

Economics

U.S. Redbook Index rose by 7.4% year-over-year in the week ending April 19.
